Surface Research

Uta Barths photography is not about what is seen in the photograph, it's about the act of seeing. By eliminating the subject matter from the photograph that is. By allowing the photograph to be set in a setting that is both unknown and aware of. She uses techniques such as blur, shadow and are filled with emptiness which show no subject to the photograph. Barth takes the subject out of the photograph, turning the viewer into the subject because the photograph is no longer about what is in the photograph it is about the act of looking at the photograph.

I feel like Uta Barth is an artist that has inspired me to become a photographer. The techniques and ideas that show through her work is something I like and can relate to. I like to take photographs of objects that don't really mean anything but the way it is shown and reflected is amazing. When a light, shadow or a reflection is on a object. It's unique to me and I feel like it's more than just an object, which has meaning and purpose.
